COCHA  SALVADOR MANU NATIONAL PARK

is located in the southern jungle of Peru, specifically in the department of Madre de Dios, in the province of Manu. It is located on the left bank of the Manu River, within the tourist use zone of the Manu National Park.

Formation and characteristics: 

The lake has a meandering formation, which means that it is a U-shaped curve that has been formed due to changes in the course of the Manu River over time. It has an extension of 5.5 km long and a width that varies between 160 and 220 meters. The average depth is 1.68 meters, and the water temperature reaches 32.1 °C.

Flora and fauna: 

Cocha Salvador is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. In its surroundings, you can find a great variety of birds, such as macaws, parrots, cormorants, wild ducks, herons and toucans. As for mammals, you can see tapirs, peccaries, deer, armadillos and jaguars, among others. It is also possible to find various species of reptiles and amphibians in the area.

Tourist activities: 

La Cocha Salvador offers various tourist activities for visitors. These include bird watching, wildlife watching, hikes and excursions in the jungle, canoeing on the water body, and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes that surround it.

Tourist infrastructure:

 In the Cocha Salvador, two wooden breakwaters have been built that allow the observation of the fauna and the landscape. Each jetty has a maximum capacity to accommodate 12 to 15 people. In addition, near the lake there are six camps that are connected by a system of trails.

Conservation:

 Cocha Salvador is part of the Manu National Park, a nature reserve of global importance. The protection and conservation of this ecosystem is essential to preserve its unique biodiversity. The park works in collaboration with tour operators to ensure that visits to Cocha Salvador are carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner.
